Biography: 

Standing the test of time has always been Max Doblhoff’s mindset. From establishing a long lasting relationship with East Africa’s alternative music scene and being an essential contributor towards building Austria’s electronic music scene. With more than a decade of experience and exposure in several musical markets around the world It is safe to say Max Doblhoff’s musical footprint has been stamped across the globe and is here to stay. Max’s productions show the deep-seated love of music he shares. Mostly analogue samples, coming from live recorded instruments are used whereas digital elements are reduced – giving the productions character & flair by the warm analogue sound. 

Born in Linz and raised in Vienna, Austria Max’s upbringing always lingered towards music. Gravitating towards the drum kit at an early age sparked the interest and curiosity to learn more about the instrument and music in general too. Now with an experience of over 25 years DJing and performing around the world its evident, Max Doblhoff is here to stay. His early days in the industry revolved around collecting and studying vinyl records from funk, disco, house to afro, latin and cumbia cuts. While gaining experience and exposure, Max subconsciously contributed to Vienna’s most groovy parties for more than 12 years. While building his profile in Austria, neighboring countries took notice and inclined on working together so as to expand his reach and offer a fresh, new vibe to their scene, naturally building his name. Max’s connection with Kenya initiated in 2003 when he played his first ever set at “Club Sikiliza” with a solid and positive reaction it was a moment that would solidity his relation with the Kenyan music industry.

Seit über 30 Jahren hinter den Turntables, konnte DJ Nicola mit seinem eklektischen Mix aus Soul, Funk, Jazz, R&B, Latin und Brazil bereits zahlreiche Soul-Clubs elektrifizieren. Basierend auf R&B lastigem Soul, zeichnen sich die Sets des Wiener Retro DJs durch stilistische Vielschichtigkeit und einer druckvollen Verbindung aller Spielformen afroamerikanischer Musik aus. DJ Nicola hat als Compiler „Recovered 3“ gestaltet, war Resident DJ im Roxy, Co-Iniitator des „Methusalem“ Clubs im Volksgarten Pavillion und Gründungsmitglied des legendären Wiener Clubs “Soul Sugar”.

Out of a passion for Jazz developed an evergrowing interest for R’n’B, Soul, Funk, Latin and Bossa Nova. An actual music carrier started in 1982 as a Reggae DJ, later stepping into Soul and Funk with a touch of Latin, Boogaloo, Afro and Brasil. Dj Bunani is a resident DJ at legendary „Soul Sugar“ club in Vienna since about 24 years. Parallel to his exceptional retro repertoire, he has gained recognition for his electronic selection, reflected by several international appearances as DJ Bunani. Between 2003 and 2007 he released the retro compilation series „Recovered“ and „Soul On Fire“ on SonyBMG. Gerhard is a part of the project „Pilots On Dope“ which released two albums on Jazz label „Verve“ in 2014 and 2016. Pilots on Dope is a collaboration of Viennese DJs and producers Gerhard Gigler and Gerald Tomez.

Kyra Caruso is an Austrian-Mexican DJ, as well as midwife residing in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up in a musical household in Vienna, Austria, she never wanted to be pigeonholed and made it her priority to continuously embark into new genres of music. Her musical influences range from 60s/70s/80s soul, boogie, funk, house music and classic rock, to her love for Prince and Stevie, 90s/00s Hip Hop/R&B, and new Electronica. She has been playing parties throughout the US, Mexico and Europe over many years.

It began with Funk & Jazz, Disco, Brasil, Worldmusic, Dub, 70´s German Electronics, Ambient, House, Techno & Trance. Point of interest at the moment: Basshouse & Techhouse & Groove. Various influenced music, different worlds indeed, but very close together and all combinations are possible today, some of them we even haven´t dreamed of. I always try to find the right sound for the location & the people & the mood of the event. Thats what a DJ should take care of with his selection and mixing of music – to create the proper vibes for a event.
Each year more than 30.000 new music titles are released (or re-released) and no matter what your musical appetite is, there are not enough hours in a lifetime to listen to a tiny fraction of the global supply. People will pay simply to have someone recommend the music and present selected material to them in an easy and fun manner. That is why producers, labels, djs and the related ecology of reviewers, catalogers and guides will continue to make a living. At least people will always need selectors.
